DECOBS NOBS, Sodium nonanoyloxybenzenesulfonate, TAED, Tetraacetylethylenediamine

DECOBS is an important component of detergents and bleaches. It is known as a bleaching activator for oxygen-base bleach sources, allowing formulas containing hydrogen peroxide releasing chemicals (specifically the sodium perborate, sodium percarbonate, sodium perphosphate, sodium persulfate, urea peroxide, etc.. unlike tetraacetylethylenediamine(TAED), DECOBS could be used in a much lower temperature.

NOBS, bleach activator NOBS now it is updated as DECOBS !
DECOBS, Bleach activator in Lower Temperature
DECOBS as the bleach activator, provides better performance in lower temperature, comparing with TAED, it is more fast soluble.

In order to enrich our production line, follows with our TAED (Tetraacetylethylenediamine), we start to synthesize DECOBS which is same chemical family of NOBS (Sodium nonanoyloxybenzenesulfonate), DECOBS is fast souble because its structure contains more hydroxyl , it provide a better performace where washes are typically at lower temperatures with shorter wash times and more dilute detergent. This has been attributed to the surfactancy of the perdecanoic acid generated by DECOBS, which is interfacially active and more effective on stains, particularly so for lipophilic types. DECOBS are encapsulated as prills or granules for powder formulations, we provide both sodium sulfate and CMC as aggomeration agent.

We contribute a lots to world oxygen bleach building like we build the first production line of sodium percarbonate/perborate in 1994 and provide a possibility for you to source the material from Asia-pacific area and more close to your target market, and we still kept the perborate production line which make us the unique supplier of perborate (tetrahydrate and monohydrate) in Asia.

Commercially, we provide DECOBS with the typical sales specification as below chart,

Background Information:

Today, bleach activators are used in many laundry detergents and bleaches worldwide. The bleach activators can provide excellent bleaching performance without fading colors.
Tetraacetyl ethylene diamine (TAED) has been widely used in Europe. It performs well at high temperatures even though it does not form a peracid very well at lower temperatures. That is the reason why many detergent manufacturers have been competing to develop more effective activators. In Europe, TAED continues to be used because washing temperatures remain high. Nonanoyloxybenzene sulfonate (NOBS) forms a peracid well at lower temperatures. This is why NOBS has been used in the US where washing temperatures are lower than in Europe. In Japan, where it is common practice to use cold tap water, even in winter, NOBS, lauroyloxybenzene sulfonate (LOBS) and decanoyloxybenzoic acid (DOBA) have been employed as well.
There are two interesting technologies for bleaching agents. The first is on metal bleach catalysts, one of which used to be used in laundry detergents and the other is now used in automatic dishwasher detergents in Europe. The second is on molecularly stabilized organic peracids. However, bleach activators will continue to be main ingredients for the foreseeable future.

Approach to Stabilize Bleach Activators in Liquid Bleaches

One of the recent topics in laundry bleach technology is the application of bleach activator to liquid oxygen bleach products. Liquid oxygen bleach with this technology was launched in Japan in 1996. In this product, activator molecules in an aqueous media are stabilized with cationic surfactants by incorporating them in nonionic micelles . In order to improve bleaching performance, new liquid bleaches formulated with a cationic surfactant which functions not only as a stabilizer but also as a bleach activator, recently appeared on be widely applied to products requiring not only bleaching but also disinfecting and/or deodorizing functions. Bleaching technologies will surely be applied to other product categories and help develop future value-added products.
